CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer - $85

All new 2017 Lifeguard Instructor course trains instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding, Waterfront Skills, Waterpark Skills, First Aid, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens. This course prepares instructor candidates to use course and presentation materials, conduct training sessions and evaluate the progress of candidates in a professional-level course. 

All Participants must:

• Be at least 17 years old
• Possess a current Red Cross certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
• Pass two rescue skill scenarios that test lifeguarding and CPR (on the first day of class)

The Lifeguard and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer courses are sponsored by the

American Red Cross and meet all Anne Arundel County requirements.  Red Cross Lifeguard

Certification is good for two years and is transferable between counties and states. 
Lifeguards in AA Co. must be 16.

All participants must:

~Be at least 15 years of age by the last day of the course attended.  Proof of age must be presented at registration.
~Attend all training sessions.  

~Perform all required skills with 100% accuracy.

~Pass a written test with a score of at least 80%.
~Successfully complete a pre-course screening session which includes the following:
1. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
2. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates will be asked to place their hands under the armpits.
3. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowe ~ Surface dive, feet-first, & retrieve a 20 lb. brick ~ Return to the surface and swim 20 yds on the back to the starting point with both hands holding the object at or near the surfaCE ~ Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

The cost is $250, which includes all course materials.  A non-refundable $125 deposit is required at the time of registration with the balance due on the first day of class.  Proof of age is required on the first day of class.
